The establishment of International Committee for Imaging Science (ICIS), under the original name of International Committee for the Science of Photography (ICSP), can be traced back to 1889 when its first congress: the International Congress on Photographic Science (ICPS) was held in Paris. Since then, it has upheld its goal of providing a platform for imaging scientists and researchers to exchange information on the latest developments in imaging science and technology, and to promote friendship and cooperation among these individuals by establishing a framework and mechanism for organizing international congresses on imaging on a regular basis. ICIS2010, the 31st Congress in this series, will be held between May 12-16, 2010, in Beijing, China. Jointly held with the 2nd Beijing International Conference on Imaging: Digital Imaging & Applications and the 2010 Academic Annual Conference of CSIST, ICIS2010 is sponsored by ICIS and CSIST; cosponsored by the Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication (BIGC), China Lucky Film Corporation and the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry (TIPC); in cooperation with the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T), the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain (RPS), the Imaging Society of Japan (ISJ), the Society of Photographic Science and Technology of Japan (SPSTJ), the Korean Society for Imaging Science and Technology (KSIST) and German Society for Photography (DGPh).
Under the theme “Imaging Science and Technology in the Digital Era”, ICIS2010 places a special focus on digital imaging and its applications over a wide spectrum of topics, covering all aspects of imaging science, technology and related applications. Its main purpose is to provide an opportunity for imaging scientists, technologists and researchers worldwide to exchange their latest findings and achievements in research; to review important progresses and the latest advances in imaging; and to share insights about future trends and directions, at a time when imaging and its related industries are reshaped and rapidly expanded by digital technology. Broad program topics are proposed for both oral and interactive (poster) paper contributions. World-renowned scholars and experts in imaging and related scientific and industrial fields will be invited as speakers for plenary and keynote talks. In addition, an on-site exhibition, short courses, local tours, post-Congress tours and social functions are scheduled to enhance the overall Congress content. Beijing, a historic and culturally-significant city, boasts many new facessuch as the facilities built for 2008 Beijing Olympicsto visit and explore. We invite you to participate in and contribute papers to this very exciting Congress.
